Outline five classes of persons who may be classified as dependants for purposes of provision under the Succession Act

  • Section 29 of the Law of Succession Act, defines the term “dependent” by identifying the categories of persons who in law are deemed to be
    • The wife or wives and former wife or wives of the
    • Children of the
    • Parents, grandparents and step parents as were being maintained by the deceased before death.
    • Grand children, step children and children whom the deceased had taken into his family as his own as were being maintained by the deceased before
    • Brothers and sisters who were being maintained by the
    • The husband if he was being maintained by his wife before her
    • Half brothers and half sisters who were being maintained by the deceased before death.
